2015 Spring Hunt Test Results
HRC International Grand Hunt Test
Up at 4am, breakfast & airing dogs, everyone back on the truck, and at 6am
on scene at the HRC International Grand for check-in. Starting out at
the Drake water test. See you at the bucket.
Drake water test is a triple with bird #3 wiping out the dog's memory
of bird #2. The blind was tough; staying on line to the blind meant
threading a needle between a point (kiss the point, don't get on it) and
pass through part of a tree top. All 3 dogs carried from 1st to 2nd series
at the HRC Grand. Tomorrow will be on the Purina land test. See you at the bucket.
All 3 dogs carried to the 3rd series of the HRC Grand. Sue picked up
marks clean, as did Boss and Creasy. Sue 1w blind, Boss 2w blind, and
Creasy 4w the blind. Tomorrow, we will run the Garmin/Tri-Tronics water test.
See you at the bucket.
Rain this morning at the HRC Grand. Had to extend a winch cable to a couple of
fellow handlers. We aren't running tests just yet. Hopefully soon the
rain will break.
Test #3 Garmin water test was a tough one today in the rain, wind, and cold.
Sue and Creasey have been carried on to the 4th series land test tomorrow, but
I lost out on carrying Boss on to the 4th. Many times the cumulative math
catches up to you at the Grand, and this time it did for Boss. He had a handle
on a mark today, and when combined with the thoughts on his Day 1 water
blind, it was not enough to carry him to the 4th. Tomorrow's 4th series hopefully
does not start with us needing to winch a handful of handlers out of the
mud like we did today. I'm sure everyone wouldn't mind better weather.
A big land test today.. It's right bird at 66yds, then left bird at
115yds, and then middle bird at 136yds, with a blind between left & middle
marks @ 150. Then an honor... This was the Gunners Up test. Sue, going for
the go bird, smelled the left bird in the cross wind, hooked & picked it up.
Picked up right bird clean, but now handled on the middle (go bird), and
had a 4W blind. Hoping she carries to the 5th, but if they dinged her in
the 1st as they did Boss, she might be out. Creasey picked the triple up
clean & 3W the blind. He for sure is going to the 5th. Time to prepare for
the Upland 5th series. See you at the bucket.
Creasey will be running the 5th series upland test tomorrow. The handle on
the 4th series memory bird cost Sue too much in scoring, so she did not
get carried to the 5th. Good luck to all the handlers tomorrow. See you
at the bucket.
Congrats to Creasey and owner, Bobby Nichols, on Creasey's 1st Grand pass
at the HRC International Grand!
South Arkansas HRC
We ran the South Arkansas HRC Test on March 14th & 15th with 8 dogs, 7 in finish & 1 in season. The young finish dogs are still struggling, not
nearly as consistent as I want them to be. I went 5 for 7 in finish on Saturday, passing Sue, Boss, Sarge, Creasey & Bitzy. Losing Pirate on the
water marks & Kyah on the land marks. I ran Spade in season & passed her, this gave Spade her HR Hunting Retriever title. Our CONGRATS go out to
Spade & to Greg & Nancy Mills on this accomplishment.
On Sunday I only ran 7 dogs, not running Spade as she had titled & not quite ready
to move up to finish. I went 4 for 7 in finish passing Sue, Boss, Creasey & Pirate. Losing Sarge & Kyah on the water test & Bitzy on the land test. Our next
test will be the PRTA AKC test in 2 weeks, see you at the bucket. -Bill
Central Louisiana HRC
Our 2nd hunt test of the year was the Central Louisiana HRC test. I ran 12 dogs, 6 in finish & 6 in season. Brendon Dubroc a club
member & a up and coming young trainer ran 4 started dogs for me.
On the Saturday test I went 4 for 6 in finish, passing Boss, Sarge, Creasey, & passing & titling Bitzy.
In the season test I went 6 for 6, passing Spade, Shiva, & Ella, also passing & titling Beaux, Sassy, & Rhea.
Brendon went 3 for 4 with the started dogs, passing Lelo, Reed , & getting the 1st started pass on Moon Pie.
On the Sunday test I again ran 6 finish dogs, but only 3 season dogs as the other 3 had titled. I went 3 for 6 in finish & 2 for 3 in season,
titling Shiva & Elle in season.
Once again Brendon went 3 for 4, titling Lelo & Reed in started & getting 2nd started pass with Moon Pie.
Not as good as I wanted as I like to pass them all but still a good week end. Between the two of us we titled 8 this week end & that was
a good thing. Our next test will be an AKC test next week end over in Demopolis Alabama. See you at the bucket.
Colorado River HRC
We ran our 1st hunt test of the 2015 calender year on Feb 14&15 at the Colo River HRC test over in Texas. You could sure tell it was
the 1st one of the year as dogs were loose, pumped and did not do well. I ran 12 dogs 6 finish and 6 season dogs. Brenden Dubroc a new
upcoming trainer and club member ran 4 started for me.
My 1st season dog was SHR Rhea JH owned by Beth & Sheldon Berrecloth of Alberta Canada, she picked up the water dbl clean & 6W the
blind, & had a good diversion. On land she picked up the dbl clean, 5W the blind & had a good walk out. 2nd season dog
was SHR Beaux JH owned by Jim Thompson of Dallas TX, he also picked the marks up clean & 5W the water lind with a good diversion. On land
he picked the marks up clean, 4W the blind & had a good walk out. 3rd was SHR Sassy JH owned by Monte & Nita Sayer of Nattchitoches, LA she
picked it up clean, 5W the water blind & had a good div. On land she picked the dbl up clean had a 4W blind & a good walk out. Then my troubles
started with my last 3 season dogs,. SHR Shiva JH owned by Tim Fallon of Lake Saint Louis MO was pumped too much, she had a control break
on the marks on water and that also made her have a handle. Then I lost her on the water blind. I ran Shiva as test dog on the land test and
she had settled down some. She picked the double up clean, 4W the blind & had a good walk out.
5th was SHR Elle owned by Jim & Shiela Bowman of Belcher, LA. She was also pumped she had a control break on water, causing her to also
handle on 1 mark, a good diversion & I also lost her on the blind.
6th was SHR Spade JH owned by Greg & Nancy Mills of New York, she also had a control break on water and also had to handle on a bird, but 2W the
water blind and carried to the land test. Here we had another control break, picked the dbl up clean and 4W the blind but they dropped her for the 2 control breaks.
So I went 3 for 6 on the Saturday test in season.
On to finish, my 1st dog here was HRCH Boss MH my dog, he picked the land riple up clean & 5W the blind, had a good honor. On water he
picked the triple up clean, 3W the blind and had a good diversion. 2nd was HRCH Pirate SH owned by Beth & Sheldon of Canada. He picked
the triple up clean & 5W the blind also but they dropped him as he was loose going to the working bucket and was loose again going to the
honor bucket. He did not get to run the water test. 3rd was HRCH Creasey SH owned by Bobby Nichols of Lufkin TX, he picked the triple up
clean & he also 5W the blind and had a good honor. On water he picked the triple up clean and 6-8W the water blind , had a good diversion.
4th dog was HRCH Sarge MH owned by J.C. Pentcost of Pineville LA. Sarge picked the triple up clean, 4W the blind and had a good honor. on water he
also picked the triple up clean and 5W the water blind with a good diversion. 5th dog was HR Kyah SH owned by Chad Hebert of New Iberia, LA. She had
just come back from hunting and looked a lil rusty. On land she handled on 1 mark & 5W the blind, was a little loose going to the honor bucket but
they carried her to water. Here she also had a handle on the triple, she did not get to run the blind. 6th dog was HR Bitzy SH owned by Mary Ann Sayer of Pineville LA.
Bitzy had a handle on the land triple, 4W the blind, walked with me to the buckets well but was bouncy on the honor bucket, she carried to the water test.
Here she had another handle on the triple and did not get to run the blind. So i went 3 for 6 on the finish dogs as well, while this was an average of what
was going on I had sure hoped to do better.
Brendon Dubroc ran my started dogs for me as I was limited to running only 12 dogs. His 1st dog was Lilo owned by Cody Adams of Patterson LA, she did
a great job on both land & water and got her 1st started pass. 2nd dog was Missy owned by Beth & Sheldon Berrecloth of Canada, she seemed
confused by all the noise & people. she went out on her 1st retrieve about 30 yds, stopped & looked at the gallery and turned & came back in without
the bird. He resent her and this time she stopped about 30 yds out & barked at the gallery. Missy did not do well. His 3rd dog was Moon Pie owned
by Polly Smyithe of Clearbrook MN, she also seemed a lil confused, as she over ran her bird, hooked back in to the winger, saw the bird boy, jumped back
and ran back in without a bird. She would not recast toward the bird. 4th dog was Reed owned by Marlin Downs of Leesville, LA. Reed also did a great
job on his marks and got his 1st started pass.
Sunday the dogs seemed to have settled down and we did a whole lot better. I went 6 for 6 in season and then 5 for 6 in finish. This was more like what
I had expected to do with the dogs. 1st dog again was Rhea, owned by Beth & Sheldon. She had a handle on the water marks, had a 6W blind & a good diversion.
On land she picked it up clean & 6W the land blind & had a good walk out.this was her 2nd season pass. 2nd was Beau owned by Jim Thompson, he picked the
double up clean & 1W the water blind & had a good diversion. On land he picked the dbl up clean & 6W the blind with a good walk out. This was his
2nd season pass. 3rd was Sassy she picked the dbl up clean, 6W the blind & had a good diversion. On land she picked it up clean and had a
2W blind with a good walk oput, this was her 2nd season pass. 4th was Shiva owned by Tim Fallon, she picked the water dbl up clean, 2W the
blind & had a good diversion. On land she picked the double up clean, had some problems on the blind so I stopped, called her back in, recast her & 2W the
blind the 2nd time. With a good walk out this was her 1st season pass. 5th dog was Elle owned by Jim & Sheila Bowman, she once again had a control break on
the marks & had a to handle but she had a 4W blind & a good diversion. On land she kept her butt on the ground, picked the double up clean, had a 4W blind and a good
walk out for her 1st season pass. 6th was Spade owned by Greg & Nancy Mills, on water she picked it up clean & 6W the water blind with a good diversion. On land
she also picked it up clean , 3W the blind and with a good walk out got her 1st season pass.
My CONGRATS to these young dogs and to their owners.
Finish dogs also started off on water today, my 1st dog was once again my dog Boss. On water he picked the triple up clean & 3W the blind. On the
land test he picked it up clean & 1W the blind, with a good honor he got another pass. 2nd dog was Pirate owned by Sheldon & Beth Berrecloth, he picked
the triple up clean, 6W the blind & stayed with me to & from the bucket. on land he picked it up clean also & 3W the blind. He was good walking to both
buckets but a lil loose leaving the honor bucket, but got another finish pass. Creasey came 3rd owned by Bobby Nichols, he picked the triple up
clean & 9W the blind. On land he had a handle on 1 mark & once again 9W on this blind , good control on the walk ins & outs for another finish pass.
4th dog was Sarge owned by J.C. Pentecost he picket the triple up clean & 4W the blind, on land he picked it up clean & 3W the blind. Control was good to & from
the buckets for another finish pass for him. 5th dog was Kyah, owned by Chad Hebert, she had a rough morning, handling on 2 marks and did not get to run
the blind. 6th dog was Bitzy owned by Mary Ann Sayer, who had a handle on the water test & 6W the blind. On land she picked the triple up clean & had a 5W
blind with good control to & from the buckets this gave Bitzy her 3rd finish pass. A whole lot better day for me & the dogs than yesterday.
Brenden once again ran my started dogs. Lilo owned by Cody Adams & Reed owned by Marlin Downs once again did well and each received
another started pass. Missy swam out about 20 feet & came back, I will water force her before I run her again. Moon Pie picked up the bird, swam back
but beached early and dropped the bird to shake off & would not pick the bird back up & bring it in. So Brenden once again had a 50% day. I sure do thank him for
running my young dogs for me, I needed to see where I was at with them.
Titles for 2014
The 2014 year started out real slow and kind of rough for me, in that the end of January I broke
my ankle and then in February the cancer came back & I was off to the Mayo Clinic for throat
surgery again. But all in all even with the slow start we had a good year. The following
dogs titled during the 2014 calendar year:
- HRCH UH Ace MH owned by Greg & Nancy Mills of Ogdenburg NY received a Grand pass at the 2014 Spring Grand and also achieved his Master Hunter title.
- HRCH Boss MH who is my dog received his Master Hunter title and also qualified for the 2014 Master National.
- HRCH Sarge MH who belongs to J.C. Pentcost of Pineville LA recieved his Master Hunter title this year.
- HRCH UH Sue MH who belongs to Polly & Jim Smyithe of Bemidji MN did not title this year but qualified for the 2014 Master National.
- HRCH Doc MH who is owned by Avis Dominque of Carencro LA received his Master Hunter title this year.
- SHR Sassy JH who is owned by Monte & Nita Sayer of Natchitoches LA earned 2 titlea this year. She received her SHR & her JH titles.
- HR Kyah SH who is owned by Chad Hebert of New Iberia LA also earned 2 titles this year picking up her HR title and her SH title.
- HR Bitzy SH who is owned by Mary Ann Sayer of Pineville LA also earned 2 titles this year , receiving both her HR and her SH titles.
- HRCH Pirate SH who is owned by Sheldon & Beth Berrecloth of Alberta Canada earned 2 titles this year, in that he got his HRCH and his SH titles.
- HRCH Creasey SH who is owned by Bobby Nicholes of Lufkin, TX also earned 2 titles this year, picking up his HRCH title and his SH title.
- MHR HRCH Hux MH owned by Trapper Jahn of Papilloon NE, earned 3 titles this year. He got his MHR title from NAHRA, his HRCH title from HRC & his MH title from AKC. a really strong year for HUX.
- SHR Rhea JH owned by Beth & Sheldon Berrecloth of Alberta Canada earned 2 titles this year, she got her SHR & her JH titles.
- SHR Beaux JH owned by Jim Thompson of Dallas TX also picked up 2 titles this year, earning his SHR & JH titles.
- SHR Shiva JH owned by Tim Fallon of Lake Saint Louis, MO also earned 2 titles this year, picking up her SHR title and her JH title.
- SHR Elle owned by Jim & Sheila Bowman of Belcher LA earned her SHR title this year, missing her JH title by 1 pass as she came into heat during the time she was to run for her JH title.
So not a bad year in that we got a late start, we ran a total of 15 week ends, running both Grands and
the Master National. we put a total of 16,833 miles on the dog truck and ran hunt test in a total of 10 different states.
A lot of young dogs are on the truck as you can tell by the titles this year, next year 2015 will be a challenge as we try
to move them on to the next level. THANKS for all the help this year, see you at the bucket.
Recent duck hunting in Louisiana
It was slower today, we killed 9, with 6 gadwal, 2 ringnecks & 1 spoon. This was SHR Sassy JH first duck hunt. Sassy belongs to Monte & Nita Sayer of Natachadish LA, she is 1 year old & is out of
GRHRCH Roux MH & GRHRCH Mylee MH. A lot to learn, mo-Jo's, jerk strings, decoys , & ducks that dive. To say the least Monte was pleased with his Baby Girl's performance.
